Patrick Villafane was born in Germany in a town called Bitburg, home to Bitburger Brewing, a major international brewery. Growing up, beer was front and center: there was always an occasion to crack open a Bitburger. After moving to the states, he and his family would visit old German friends every few years. Occasionally, they’d cross the border into Belgium and experience their amazing beer culture or venture down the Mosel and taste Riesling. Needless to say, the seed was planted at a pretty young age.
Over the years, Patrick and his wife Jenny have continued to travel and expand their palates. They’ve tasted Tempranillo in Spain, drank their way through Tuscany, and discovered Dignac on the Croatian coast. Once they got to Charlotte, they fell in love with the local beer scene and opened The Hop Shop, a craft beer and wine joint. The good people of the Queen City embraced this little shop and Patrick and Jenny love Plaza Midwood so much they decided to make it home. They opened The Bohemian to create a place for folks to learn about and enjoy wine in a funky, laid back environment that’s characteristic of Plaza Midwood. Cheers!
